Holistic vaginal steam treatment for cleansing and soothing
Benefits of Yoni Steam:
Vaginal steaming aka yoni steam is an ancient practice that is believed to be beneficial for cleansing the vagina and uterus, regulating the menstrual cycle, easing the pain of period cramps and bloating, enhancing fertility and aiding in healing and soothing after childbirth. The practice can also be very relaxing and meditative.
The Yoni steam process involves sitting over a steaming pot of herb-infused water, generally for about 10-30 minutes per session, depending on your body’s constitution and menstrual cycle history. As the steam rises and the herbs penetrate vaginal tissue, this is how the vagina and uterus can be cleansed and soothed.
You can receive your vaginal steam session as a spa treatment or at home. Here is some basic information and always contact your practitioner when unsure.
Contraindications: – Do Not Steam if you have experienced spontaneous bleeding and irregular periods in the past three months, you are pregnant or if you have just ovulated and are trying to conceive that month.
MILD STEAMING (10 Minute Session) FOR THOSE WHO:
- Are first time steamers
- Have short menstrual cycles (27 days or less)
- Have an IUD/mirena.
- Prone to infections
- Normally run hot (have hot flashes, sweat a lot)
- Are under the age of 13
- Are prone to fresh spotting
- Are prone to spontaneous bleeding / have 2 periods a month
It is not recommended to exceed 30 minute steam sessions for anyone
Process:
- Place herbs in a pot then pour on one to two litres of boiling water.
- Place pot on the ground and place pillows/towels around the pot. Prior to steaming see if you need to urinate. Have a drink ready nearby.
- Test the steam temperature so you don’t burn your skin. Then comfortably squat over the pot and allow the steam relax your yoni.
- Steam for 10-30 min depending on your sensitivities
- Once done, you can return the herbs and water to the ground.
Suggestions:
- Never Steam with anything plastic (bowls, seats) as hormone disrupting toxins will be released
- Urinate before steaming
- Test steam before sitting down. Do not get burnt.
- Bring water or tea with you
- Wipe at the end
- A steam session may activate an emotional release so many people prefer to schedule it before bedtime or a nap
